I built this website for North Star to convey their mission as a learning center for teens to families who are interested in alternatives to school as well as potential donors. Key elements of the design include typography, responsive design, multi-media content, and encouraging donations.
The focus here is on typography to effectively communicate their message and responsive design to reach mobile users. The proportion of people accessing websites using mobile devices is huge and rapidly growing. Is is important for people to be able to easily read information on these smaller screens.
We incorporated wonderful multimedia images and video to convey the personality and character that North Star wants to project: teens thriving right now. A full-screen slider on the front page immediately projects this branding.
Testimonials from current teens, alumni, and parents are presented in a masonry grid that allows visitors to dynamically sort and view text and video content in an overlay without leaving the page.
Asking people to give is challenging. Research shows that people are more giving when they associate their gift with individual people. We designed this donation page to communicate the benefits of giving to North Star in a way that feels personal and compelling.
Effective communication relies on multiple channels. We included links to North Star’s social media presence including Facebook and Twitter. Additionally, we present visitors to the website with many clear, but unobtrusive opportunities to signup for their email newsletter. Email is a great way to keep people updated about current activities. Research has also found that each email address on your mailing list translates into future donations.
Please visit North Star and see the rest of the site.
